Originally targeted for a 2014 opening date, the delayed 5.4 mile extension of Bay Area Rapid Transit’s Fremont Line to Warm Springs station is slated to open on March 25, 2017. According to BART officials, an opening ceremony for the new station will be held on March 24. The new facility includes a parking lot with more than 2,000 spaces for commuters. This marks the first extension of the Fremont Line since its opening in 1972. Future phases will extend BART into Silicon Valley with stations planned for Milpitas, Berryessa, and eventually downtown San Jose, Calif.
