The Chicago Transit Authority took control of the Windy City’s rapid transit, bus, and trolley lines on October 1, 1947, ushering in a new era of transportation for one of America’s largest urban populations. While CTA is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year, the city will also be marking the 125th anniversary of the opening of Chicago’s first elevated rapid transit line.
