Cost overruns for Fort Lauderdale streetcar line

According to reports by the Miami Sun-Sentinel, the cost projections for Fort Lauderdale’s new three-mile Wave light rail line are more than $100 million higher than originally anticipated. The project was originally budgeted for $142 million yet could top $270 million once all construction bids are received. The Wave has already received criticism from Florida officials and public opposition based on its ballooning costs and whether many people will ride it if it is built. Three  commissioners voted against  the project this past summer, and others had reservations despite voting to allow it to move forward.
