Severe Flooding Suspends VIA Churchill Service

VIA Rail’s remote services between Winnipeg and Churchill, Man., have been suspended since May 23 due to extreme flood damage along the Hudson Bay Railway from late spring blizzards. The railroad is the only ground transportation into the remote community of 900 on Hudson Bay, now forced to rely on air transportation for shipping and travel. No estimate was given for repairs, and the community is already feeling the effects as vacationers cancel their travel plans during what should be the high tourism season.
