Ski Train returns under Amtrak

After a 7 year hiatus, the legendary Ski Train will operate from Denver Union Station to a new platform at Winter Park Ski Resort during ski season, thanks to a partnership with Amtrak. The train was discontinued in 2009 due to rising costs, and the distinctive gold-and-silver equipment decorated for Rio Grande was sold off. Amtrak ran a demonstration train in 2015 to study the possibility of bringing back the seasonal service to Winter Park. Officials from Colorado DOT said last winter that a train could take 450 to 500 vehicles off the I-70 corridor during peak traffic times during ski season.
