Milwaukee Streetcar Moves Forward

The City of Milwaukee has reached an agreement with We Energies to reduce the cost of relocating utilities for construction of the Milwaukee Streetcar by more than $6 million. According to a report posted on the Urban Milwaukee blog, the city had originally budgeted $21 million for the work, but the new agreement brings the cost down to $15 million.

The first phase proposed 2.1 mile route will connect the Lower East Side with bus and Amtrak service at Milwaukee Intermodal Station. The second phase of the Milwaukee Streetcar project includes a waterfront spur that is currently in the engineering phase. Service on the first phase is expected to start in 2018.
