The Adirondack Railway Preservation Society, operators of the Adirondack Scenic Railway, has been awarded $1.5 million as part of a $25 million New York State rail investment plan announced by Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday. The money is to be used to rehabilitate passenger cars and locomotives, according to the grant application. ARPS is currently suing the state to block its plan to scrap the northern 34 miles of track between Tupper Lake and Lake Placid to replace it with a recreational trail.
