A new extension of the Gold Line light rail line from East Los Angeles to Whittier, Calif., could tunnel beneath Atlantic Boulevard, according to a plan released by Metro. The cost of the extension is estimated to be $5 billion, with some of the funding coming from ballot measures approved by voters in 2008 and 2016. Alternative proposals include building alongside the 60 Freeway, and using a combination of surface and subway routes. According to a report in the Whittier Daily News, further public comment meetings will be held in the coming months before Metro releases its final decision.
