Amtrak will be honoring the 37-year career of the AEM-7 electric locomotive with a special excursion on June 18, 2016. The “Farewell to the AEM-7 Excursion Train” will depart Washington, D.C., and head north to Philadelphia. Upon arrival, the train will be turned on the wye trackage at “ZOO” interlocking. Passengers will take a walking tour of the shops that supported the AEM-7 electrics and other equipment for generations. The train will return to Washington, D.C., by 5:40 p.m. The train is planned to consist of two AEM-7 locomotives, seven Amfleet-I coaches and two Amfleet-I food service cars.
