NJ Transit restores late night trains

After a number of protests from riders following recent sudden service changes, NJ Transit has restored two late night trains to the timetable. Five trains were removed from the Morris & Essex and North Jersey Coast Line without warning. The last outbound train on the Morris & Essex Lines was 1:19 a.m.from New York Penn Station, making 12:34 a.m. the final departure. The latest change will add a 12:56 a.m. departure for M&E riders, as well as an 11:30 p.m. train departing Dover, N.J., for Hoboken. Advocates from the Lackawanna Commuter Coalition are credited with pressuring NJT officials for the changes. “These are steps in the right direction,” said chairman Peter Alan, “and we’ll continue our campaign until riders have the level of service they deserve, which is equivalent with the Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North.”
