San Diego Trolley to Open in November

This week, local officials in San Diego got to ride on the Mid-Coast Extension of the UC San Diego Blue Line. The line recently completed testing and is expected to open to the public on November 21.

The Mid-Coast Trolley will extend trolley service from the Santa Fe Depot in Downtown San Diego to the University Community area, serving major activity centers such as Old Town, UC San Diego, and University Towne Centre. The 11-mile extension has cost $2.1 billion.

On Saturday, August 28, the general public will be able to take the same tour as part of a special community celebration from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Information about this festival will be shared at the event and can be found on the Mid-Coast on Morena Community Appreciation Festival webpage.

The service will use 45 Siemens Mobility S700 Light Rail Vehicles that were delivered in 2020. —Passenger Train Journal Staff
